What is it?

The Medical Novel is a tool created for students and physicians.

It is literally a novel, and each chapter has a case that will help you remember those diseases you never think to put on your differential!

It is meant to be entertaining and helpful to your clinical practice. Besides, it will also help you with the USMLE steps!

Why does it work?

Have you ever heard someone saying that clinical cases are all you need to keep information in your brain? Well, there is some truth in that, but not exactly the way you think.

We remember what we care about.

You do remember better when you already saw a case - hence why clinical experience is so important! But not because they go like ‘30 year-old man, farmer, is brought to the physician…’

If that were the case, you would remember all the test questions you’ve ever done in your life!

I bet you do remember though that patient that you didn’t know what to do with, or that one that you thought it was no big deal and in the end it was, or even that one that reminded you of your father.

The thing is: we don’t remember the facts, we remember how they made us feel.

That’s what a lot of medical TV series do, they make you care about what happens. The problem is that they are medically inaccurate, so not a good way at all to study.

Who's it for?

The Medical Novel is for everyone that enjoys medical puzzles. Whether you're a pre-med, already a medical student, studying for the USMLE steps, or you just enjoy the medical field, you're welcome here! We hope you enjoy it and please leave suggestions for us to improve!

How does it actually work?

As said before, each chapter revolves around a case, and the idea is for you to get to know the illness script of those hard diseases you struggle to memorize. You will follow our protagonist Lisa Diaz as she discovers a lot of new diseases, one chapter per week, every Sunday.

The story does have a background plot (and that's why you'll remember it!), so we recommend that you read the chapters in order. However, they will be tagged according to the main subject, if you wish for one in particular.

Besides, after every chapter we'll leave links for you to read more about the disease if you'd like since our goal is not to explain the entire pathophysiology, but for you to master the illness script.

Our goal is for you to be able to recognize the disease when you see it in tests or in real life.
